Micron has announced they are starting to ship its 9th Generation (G9) TLC NAND-equipped products across the world and for the consumer space, the Micron 2650 NVMe SSD will take on that position.
Said to rock transfer speeds of up to 3.6GB/s, the Micron G9 NAND is currently the fastest in the industry for TLC drives and is up to 73% denser than current market alternatives, thus providing more capacity in the same form factor or smaller and compact storage solutions for different applications.
Data-centric workloads also benefit from Micron G9 NAND since it is around 50% faster in terms of data transfer rates than any other competing NAND products. Specifically, there’s up to 99% higher write bandwidth and 88% better read bandwidth per die, resulting in significant performance and energy efficiency gains in SSDs and embedded NAND solutions.
As the title mentioned, the consumer market covering standard, everyday computing will be able to enjoy and utilize the power of Micron G9 NAND through the Micron 2650 NVMe SSD that offers class-leading reliability with up to 7,000 MB/s sequential read speeds via PCIe 4.0.
However, this is more likely geared towards client OEM solutions and if you would like to get an “ala carte” unit in places like PC shops and retailers, SSDs branded under the name Crucial shall be your choice, although Micron did mention qualification for G9 NAND in Crucial products are still on the way.
