In the second quarter this year, global tablet PC shipments fell 9.7 percent to 45.1 million. Apple’s iPad accounted for 14.6 million of the shipments. Previously in the first quarter, iPad shipments even reached 19.5 million. This has shown that the market segment and industry is current facing sluggish growth situations and that manufacturers are thinking hard to break the trend.
A DigiTimes article stated that Samsung has been researching on the conflict of smartphones and tablet devices demand. Samsung thinks that users will buy more smartphones than tablets. That is why Samsung is attempting to come out with large screen tablets to compete with the laptop market instead of the smartphone market, hoping to get some new growth from it.
