Many people would remember VAIO, which was originally a brand of Sony Corporation. 4 years after Sony’s sale of the VAIO brand, Nextsgo Company Limited has just announced that they will be bringing back the VAIO notebook computers to the market by licensing the brand from VAIO Corporation in Japan. These new notebook computers will be manufactured in Japan, and brought to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
For a start, VAIO has announced two new notebook computers for the market. They are the VAIO S series, which includes the VAIO S11 11.6-inch and VAIO S13 13.3-inch notebook computers.
First Looks
The VAIO S series aims to capture mainstream consumers who are looking at thin and light notebook computers. Generally, these machines retains the minimal design style of the Sony VAIO predecessors. Many design attributes of the Sony VAIO notebooks can be still be seen in the new VAIO S Series, such as chiclet style keyboard and a simple logo on the notebook’s coloured cover.
For a start, both notebook computers are almost identical in their hardware specifications. The main differences comes only in their screen size. They are equipped with the latest 8th Generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processors and chipset, that is paired with at least 8GB (up to 16GB) of LPDDR3 memory. There is also an option for a 4G LTE modem to be built in.
Uniquely, the keyboard will be slightly lifted and tilted when the lid of the notebook is open. This design improves the ergonomics of the notebook and generally enhances the typing experience. Moreover, since the notebook will be slightly lifted, it can be better cooled as well.
These notebook computers are currently all manufactured in Japan. Based on our initial impressions, these notebooks are really sturdy, living up to the expectations of Japanese workmanship and manufacturing.
- VAIO S11 (White Version)
The VAIO S11 is probably one of the lightest 11.6-inch notebook computer available in the market. Weighing at only 0.85kg, the S11 is still power packed with the latest hardware and features. The 1920 x 1080 FullHD resolution display results in high pixel density. This ensures crystal clear viewing experience, which is optimal for entertainment purposes.
- VAIO S13
The S13 could be a more popular model, as the larger 13.3-inch display will be more appropriate for media consumption. Even though it has a larger display, the S13 still remains to have a 4-cell battery, in order to retain its light weight of 1.07KG.
As for the S13, it will also have the 1920 x 1080 resolution display. However, instead of having a minimum of 8GB LPDDR3 RAM, the S13 starts off with 4GB of RAM. Of course, the different SKUs and availability of the models that are brought into the various countries are still dependable on the local market.
Both the VAIO S11 and S13 are great additions to the current list of notebooks in the market. The VAIO has effectively differentiated from the rest with its high performance and portability.
However, since pricing and availability information for the Singapore market are still unknown, we are unsure if the VAIO S11 and S13 will be a good recommendations for consumers for its price.
What we know is that both models will definitely be available for the Singapore market, and it is only a matter of time from the actual announcement. We’ll see if these notebook PCs are worth your considerations then!
