Singapore, 14 May 2014 – Samsung Electronics Singapore and ITE today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the professional development and industry-relevant training of students as part of Samsung’s Corporate Citizenship efforts. The three-year MOU was signed by Mr Bruce Poh, Director & CEO, ITE, and Mr Harry Lee, President, Samsung Electronics Singapore at ITE College East.
New Training Hub for Students
A highlight of the partnership is the setting up of the ITE-Samsung Tech Hub – a comprehensive in-house facility with Samsung products, equipment and software to support the training of students in relevant courses. At ITE College East, students from the Nitec in Electronics (Mobile Devices) and Nitec in Electronics (Display Technology) will be exposed to Samsung’s leading commercial solutions and emerging mobile technologies to prepare them for careers in the mobile and display technology industries. Students will be among the first to have hands-on experience using new features in mobile devices and latest technology, giving them an edge in the workforce.
The collaboration will also give students exciting opportunities to build their capabilities. Under the ITE-Samsung Industry Project Programme, students will have opportunities to use Samsung products to provide technology solutions when working on industry projects. Samsung will also offer industrial attachment opportunities for students; joint-certification training programmes to enhance students’ skills and knowledge and offer scholarships and awards to deserving students.
Enriching Learning Experiences of Students and Staff
ITE staff will also benefit from the collaboration as Samsung will conduct training programmes to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer. It will keep staff abreast of the latest technological advancements for them to train students effectively.
On the partnership, Mr Bruce Poh, Director & CEO, ITE, said, “We are excited to collaborate with a global brand name and an industry leader like Samsung. Leveraging on Samsung’s technological expertise and resources, we can better equip our students to be at the forefront of mobile and display technologies.”
Mr Harry Lee, President, Samsung Electronics Singapore, added, “ITE is instrumental in providing graduates with holistic and hands-on training for their seamless transition from the campus to the workforce. It is Samsung’s corporate citizenship commitment to create positive change for people everywhere, helping them to live a better life full of possibilities. We are excited to contribute to enriching ITE’s curriculum for both students and teachers.”
