While Sony and Windows have strong competition in home gaming consoles, they cooperate in other area of technology.
The head of Sony Mobile Europe, Pierre Perron said recently in an interview, the company is currently active in its R&D efforts and plans to launch its very own Windows phone. After its acquisition of Nokia’s smartphone division, Windows has a more open attitude towards collaborating with other companies.
If Sony were to successfully launch its Windows phone, it would be very good news for both parties.
Perron expressed that although Sony’s current growth on the Android platform has been very stable, Google’s open policy has led to saturation of the market. Hence, launching a Windows phone has become a very good strategy in expanding the mobile devices business.
Perron adds that he does not think it is feasible for Sony to be a hardware manufacturer for a single Operating System in the long run.
