At the start of E3 today, AMD eagerly announced two new FX processors, aiming to capture the hearts of gamers. E3 is one of the world’s most important global game exhibition and this year, with the announcement of both Microsoft’s XBOX One and PlayStation 4 both using AMD processors, it seems that AMD is steadily joining back the race. The two new FX processors does not show much innovation from AMD, but they are specially binned chips which can run at extremely speeds never thought to be attained as a stock processor. The most high-end FX-9590 can run up to 5GHz with AMD Turbo Core technology while the FX-9370 can reach 4.7GHz. The two processors are based on the Piledriver architecture. It’s definitely a first for processors to be clocked that those extremely speeds right out of the box.
With the two new 8-core processors, it also marks the love of AMD for their FX processors. FX processors have been around for very long and these two new chips will probably be the last two for the model name.
If you think you can get these new chips in the retail store, then you are wrong. It was mentioned in the press release that the FX-9590 will ship in the summer, but will only be available in prebuilt systems.
