OCaholic has managed to get the precious unreleased Intel Core i7-4770K processors under cold and clocked it to a whopping 7GHz under 2.56V. Do take note that these speeds are based on a engineering sample and not actual retail chips. The Haswell based processors are expected to be launched in June 2013. These are the fourth generation of Core I series processor from Intel.
The record speeds were tested on a ASUS Maximus VI Extreme, another motherboard which is put under the covers until the mid of May when NDA is lifted.
The new engineering sample has reached a frequency of 7012.65MHz, with 91.07 BCLK and a multiplier of 77X. The actual retail versions of Core i7-4770K us expected to reach 8GHz and provide even better stability at those speeds. These record speeds are made possible with newer technologies from leading motherboard manufacturers like ASUS, providing ASUS ROG class of motherboards for extreme overclockers to break the limits. Maximus VI Extreme will be one of the best overclocking motherboard on the market, but we will only be able to see such boards at Computex Taiwan in June.
It seems that only the new Core i7-4770K is capable of such speeds. Other CPU-Z validations showed that an Core i5-4670T on ASROCK Z87M OC Formula to reach 3183.64MHz with 138.42 *23 configurations. While another unlocked processor, Core i5-4670K reached 6202.97GHz with a MSI Z87 MPower.
The interesting thing from these validations is that the RAM from APACER used on the motherboard is seen to be at 1661MHz frequency for Core i5-4670T, which effectively means 3322MHz frequency. This gives us a great impression of memory performance on the new Haswell platform. Additionally, the results is actually done by famous overclocker Nickshih from ASROCK as seen from the validated screenshot.
