We’ve learnt from GSMArena that Apple’s next generation iPhone 5S is expected to have quite a significant hardware refresh. The roadmap stated that iPhone 5S will be equipped with a quad-core A7 processor clocked at a high 1.2GHz and there will be a 2GB of memory to pair with it. The memory will also be improved from the previous 1GB LPDDR2-1066 RAM to a dual-channel 2GB LPDDR-800 memory. This refresh is expected to bring improvements to both performance and multitasking capabilities.
In addition, Apple may use the latest quad-core PowerVR SGX554MP4 chip for its GPU, similar to those found in the iPad 4. Currently, the iPhone 5 is equipped with a triple core PowerVR SGX543MP3.
Apple will still make use of the resolution of the iPhone 5S as one of the selling points. The iPhone 5S retina display is likely to remain at a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. Of course, iOS7 will probably be announced together with iPhone 5S. There is still no new or rumours on the iPhone 5S battery or camera specifications at this time.
