WhatsApp just got a big update that changes how announcements can be delivered to a large number of people and that’s the new Channels feature.
Through Channels, you may privately follow specified people and organizations that you want to get updates. To keep everything discreet, the phone numbers of channel admins will not be shown to followers, nor any individuals will know the details of other followers or anybody else that followed the Channel.
Additionally, all messages posted within Channels will only be available for 30 days and will be wiped after the threshold.
To prevent misuse and the freedom of choice, only users themselves will be able to subscribe to Channels they desired and not the other way around.
Global partners such as WHO, WWE, UFC, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid are among some of the organizations accessing this feature right now but in the coming months, everyone will be able to create their own Channel and deliver news, updates, or even polls in a simple, no-hassle, and clutterless format.
For Singapore, the Land Transport Authority, National Environment Agency, and other government bodies alongside NGOs like Food from the Heart and the Singapore Heart Foundation are launching or already launched their own WhatsApp Channel as we speak.
