Whatsapp has announced a new round of updates focusing on refining security features and privacy-focused functions in response to the rampant growth of cyberattacks targeting the mass public more and more in recent times.
One of the straightforward ways to confirm that you’re switching to a new device is simply to make sure you own both the old and new phones/tablets at that given moment. Thus, there will be an extra security check delivered to your old device before starting the new migration.
Next, extra checks for account authentication are performed in the background to reduce the chance of message misuse involving malware and session hijacking but WhatsApp made sure that no user action is needed for these under-the-hood verifications.
Lastly, a new security feature called ‘Key Transparency’ will allow you automatically verify a secure connection and it essentially is the streamlined process of the existing option under ‘Encryption’ within the Contact Info tab. But now, clicking on the encryption tab means you’ll be able to verify right away.
All of these are applied on top of the existing protection methods including 2 Factor Authentication and End-to-End Encryption. Be sure to update your WhatsApp version to the latest ones to get access to all of these.
