Unboxing the S7 MaxV Ultra
The accessories included with your purchase will vary depending on which version of the S7 MaxV you choose. The basic version does not include an auto-emptying dock and only comes with the robot, a charging dock, and a power cable. On the other hand, the Ultra bundle (which we’re reviewing) includes the deluxe dock.
The review set of the S7 MaxV Ultra arrived in two boxes, one containing the robot and the other with the Empty Wash Fill Dock.
Meet the robot vacuum
The S7 Max V Ultra looks…like a robot vacuum. By now, most of us are familiar with how that looks .The black robot vacuum sees a bumper wrapping around the front half, and a small LIDAR module poking up from the top.
The front of the robot features a sensor array that scans your surroundings for any potential obstacles, including a 3D TOF sensor, an RGB camera, and LEDs that turn on in low ambient light. The robot also includes a light strip on the top front that glows, indicating whether the device is vacuuming or actively mopping.
Flip the robot over and toward the front, you’ll see the vacuum assembly with the main rubber brush and rubber edge brush. Towards the back, the focus is on mopping, with the “VibraRise” mopping system from Roborock.
This system draws water from a reservoir on the back to keep the underside pad moistened. When the robot is actively mopping, it oscillates the mop to help remove dirt and grime. However, when it’s not mopping, the pad lifts up to prevent any water from getting on your carpet.
At the back, you’ll also find a removable reservoir for water. You can also lift the top cover to access the dustbin, which can be easily lifted out.
Most of the S7 MaxV’s features require the app, but you can still perform basic tasks using the three physical buttons on the top of the robot. For instance, you can send it back to the dock, initiate a spot clean, or turn it on or off without having to use the app.
The Empty Wash Fill Dock
The addition of the Empty Wash Fill Dock accessory can significantly improve the convenience of using the S7 MaxV.
This accessory features three bins on top of the dock for dust, clean water, and used water. The dock is pretty big, but extremely stable.
The water bins are easy to lift off, while the dust bin has a removable cover that hides the bag.
The dust bag should last for several weeks before it needs replacing, and you’ll receive one spare bag with the dock. Additional bags can be purchased in a set of three.
Performance and Features
Let’s dive into the features of the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and how it performs.
The Roborock app
We’ve mentioned the Roborock app multiple times in our other reviews, and as usual, the app is well-designed and user-friendly. You can quickly connect to the vacuum cleaner by scanning the QR code located inside the lid. The app provides guidance on all major features that you can set up during the vacuum cleaner’s initial setup or at a later time.
On the app, you can see information about the cleaning area covered, current battery level and cleaning time, all in one glance.
3D mapping
The Roborock app allows you to map your floors and customize the cleaning experience. You can set up barriers or no-go zones that are off-limits to the robot, and even add furniture and floor materials to create a more accurate 3D representation of your home.
Once you have the floor map and customized settings in the app, you can then send the robot to clean specific rooms with different cleaning preferences. For example, you can increase the vacuuming power or use more water and power in dirtier rooms.
Strong suction power
The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is equipped with a high suction power of up to 5,100 Pa, more than double the power on the S6 MaxV.
On our test, the strong suction power allows the robot vacuum to effectively clean carpets and remove dirt from hard-to-reach areas. Its durable brush can agitate carpets and mats to dislodge debris and direct them towards the vacuum.
The S7 MaxV Ultra’s intelligent Auto-lifting Mop also automatically moves the mop out of the way when the robot detects a carpet.
ReactiveAI 2.0 obstacle recognition system
The S7 MaxV Ultra’s ReactiveAI 2.0 obstacle recognition system is highly effective at preventing the robot from getting stuck during cleaning. It can easily avoid power cords, long curtains, and tight spaces, making it more reliable than the S6 MaxV in this regard. In fact, during testing, the S7 MaxV Ultra never got stuck in any nook or cranny of my very cluttered house.
The app provides a list of all the areas where obstacles were detected, along with photos captured by the RGB camera. Additionally, the app utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to recognize these obstacles.
Incredible base station
Take a look at the size comparison between the docks of the non-ultra version vs the ultra version of the S7 MaxV series.
With the addition of the Empty Wash Fill Dock, the S7 MaxV automates the entire cleaning process. To start a cleaning cycle, the robot rolls off the dock and backs in to allow the dock to clean the mop pad and fill the reservoir.
Once it’s ready, the robot begins cleaning and when it’s done, it backs in again so the dock can empty the water reservoir and clean the mop. Afterward, it docks to charge, and depending on your schedule, it can even empty the dust bin. This entire process requires no manual intervention, allowing for a completely hands-off cleaning experience.
Even though the noise made as the robot vacuum washes the mop, empties its dirty water, and refills its tank is pretty loud, the dock worked incredibly well – the process of transferring dirty water into the correct tank is always seamless and error-free. The robot’s dust bin remained almost entirely empty after over a dozen cleaning sessions, indicating that it effectively transferred debris to the bag each time.
Remote Viewing
The S7 MaxV Ultra doubles as a home security camera, allowing you to monitor your home from your phone. With its two-way audio feature, you can communicate with pets or people in your home.
However, to access footage, the robot needs to exit the dock camera-first. This design choice is intended to improve privacy and facilitate drying of the mop located on the back of the robot.
Battery life
When set to its lowest suction power and scrub intensity settings, Roborock says the S7 MaxV Ultra’s 5,200mAh battery offers up to 180 minutes of power. In addition, the dock is said to charge up the robot quickly (30% faster than its predecessors), so that you can get back to your cleaning schedule as soon as possible.
During our testing, we found that the S7 MaxV Ultra was able to clean for a maximum of 137 minutes on default suction power and scrub intensity settings before requiring a recharge. With over two hours of cleaning time on a single charge, the battery life of the robot vacuum is pretty impressive.
Pricing and availability
The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is available on Lazada and Shopee here at SGD $1729.90
Verdict
If you have some disposable income and are looking to invest in one of the the best vacuum cleaners on the market out there, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is worth considering.
The remarkably self-sufficient robot vacuum is packed with all the features you could possibly need, and more. It offers strong suction power, and its mop ensures that carpets are not soaked while cleaning. The robot’s obstacle-avoidance system is highly efficient, preventing it from knocking over objects or getting stuck. The integrated camera with 2-way audio is an added bonus. However, what sets it apart from other models is its dock, which takes care of cleaning, filling, and emptying the robot, meaning you can go weeks without even having to touch it.
