Those who own robot vacuum cleaners will know that the most dreadful part of it is emptying the dust tank at the end of the week (or weeks for some). The laziness to empty the tank is exactly why I stopped using robot vacuum cleaners. That’s why when Roborock sent over the Roborock Q7 Max+ – a robotic vacuum that empties itself after every use – I was stoked.
The Roborock Q7 Max+ is part of the brand’s latest Q series, a mid-range segment that sits comfortably between the Roborock S series and the Roborock E series.
Let’s check out the Roborock Q7 Max+ in this review.

Setting it up
Quite a bit of set up was required before the Roborock Q7 Max+ was ready to go, but most of it was quite self-explanatory. The docking station comes with a little screwdriver and six small screws that are already partially put in. Simply screw them in and connect the power wire.
You’ll also want to download the app. You don’t have to, but it really changes the way you use the Roborock Q7 Max+, which you will see later.
Design
The design of the Roborock Q7 Max+ will not surprise you. It shares the same design language as most other Roborock vacuum cleaners.
The robot is primarily built of plastic. On the front of the cover, there are three buttons that control the robot’s fundamental functions: they allow us to start it, send it to the base, and enable local cleaning. A 2-in-1 dust and water tank is located behind the flap.
At the base, you’ll find the usual drop sensors, a rubber side brush, a rubber main brush with a handle with a floating structure and a section where you can optionally attach a mopping pad.
The dock is pretty hefty, but very stable. We appreciate that Roborock included a notch at the back for neat cable management.
Performance and features
Now that we’ve gotten the nitty gritty out of the way, let’s dive into the features of the Roborock Q7 Max+ and how it performs.
The app
The Roborock 7 Max+’s accompanying app is well-designed and easy to use. You instantly connect to the vacuum cleaner by scanning the QR code buried inside the lid. The app will walk you through all of the major features that you may set up now or later while setting up the vacuum cleaner.
The app, at a glance, offers you information about the cleaning area covered, current battery level and cleaning time.
You can also modify the Roborock Q7 Max+’s robot voice (language and volume) and remotely control the vacuum via the app. You may also change the Water Flow for mopping and the Suction Power from quiet to balanced to turbo to max.
3D mapping
Through the app, you’ll be able to map your floors. You can set barriers on your map or add no-go zones that are off limits to the robot. You can even add furniture and floor materials to create a more accurate 3D representation of your home.
Based on this information, you can then send the robot to vacuum some rooms at a higher power or to use more water or power in some dirtier rooms.
Powerful suction
With a maximum suction power of 4200 Pa, the Roborock Q7 Max+ can drag dirt hiding in carpets and lift off debris that are hiding in nooks and crannies. The vacuum cleaner’s long-lasting rubber brush can powerfully agitate objects like carpets and floor mats to release dirt and flick them into the vacuum stream.
The Turbo and Max modes are really powerful, and the robot automatically turns the mode on when it hits a carpet. It can, however, get pretty loud.
In addition, the large 5,200 mAh Li-ion battery allows the robot to operate non-stop for up to 3 hours on a single charge, on our test.
Twin cleaning: vacuuming and mopping
The Roborock Q7 Max+ can vacuum and mop simultaneously to mop off fine dirt that vacuuming alone might miss. Equipped with an electronic pump in it’s mop, the robot offers 30 water flow levels so you can fine-tune the cleaning to match the floor types and your preferences.
For the most part, the vacuum cleaner does a great job cleaning – I did not come across any uncleaned corners.
PreciSense Precision LiDAR technology
Roborock’s PreciSense LiDAR system drives Roborock Q7 Max+’s extraordinary ability to find the most efficient way to clean throughout home. Because it makes use of an infrared sensor for mapping, the Q7 Max+ does away with a camera or visual sensors. Despite that, it still is quite efficient in dealing with obstacles like walls of furniture. The technology is pretty fine-tuned, no furniture (or humans) were harmed in the entire cleaning process.
That said, smaller objects can still get in the way of the robot. So to prevent any mishaps, you might want to leave the path clear of smaller objects for the robot to do its job well.
Auto-empty dock
Now, on to the most exciting part of the Roborock Q7 Max+ – for me at least. At the end of every cleaning session, the Q7 Max+ will dock in a station that automatically extracts the collected dust.
Dust is drawn out of the robot through the main brush opening and directly into a 2.5 liter bag. Of course, you’re going to have to clear the bag when it fills to the brim, but according to Roborock, that’s going to take at least 7 weeks to fill (but that’s subject to the size of your apartment). That’s not too bad – not having to touch the dust cartridge until 2 months later.
The only complaint that we have is that the process of auto-emptying can get pretty loud. In fact, Roborock admits to this too:
Not just that, the process of docking in itself, is loud, seen from the video below.
But that’s just a small price to pay, in our opinion.
Price and availability
The Roborock Q7 Max+ is available here at SGD $1199.90.
Roborock Q7 Max+: Verdict
Overall, the Roborock Q7 Max+ strikes a good balance between price, performance and features. At $1199.90, the robot vacuum cleaner offers a reliable mapping system, mopping function, an easy to use app, and a self-cleaning function. If Roborock could make the Q7 Max+ a lot less noisy, it would be the robot vacuum cleaner to recommend.
