The app is currently only available in the UK and Europe with plans to expand to Asia next year
SINGAPORE, 19 DECEMBER 2018 – Huawei Consumer Business Group has recently launched StorySign, a mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to translate books into sign language for children who are deaf. Huawei believes in using the power of technology to good use and to push the boundaries of what is humanly possible.
There are approximately 32 million deaf children globally and many struggle to learn to read, often due to a lack of resources bridging sign language and reading. To address this, Huawei developed the StorySign app in partnership with the European Union of the Deaf and the British Deaf Association.

StorySign can be downloaded for free from Google Play Store and the Huawei AppGallery. The app is currently available in the UK and Europe in 10 different sign languages and launches with one classic children’s book from Penguin Random House in each language, with more on the way. Availability in Asia will be released next year.
