As populations grey across Asia, a growing
number of seniors have ended up home alone. Those aged 65 and above make up a
third of all one-person households in Singapore[2], for example. Even
if the older adults have family members living with them, long working hours
often mean that there is no one to check in on them most of the day.
ConnectedLife was set up to help families better connect with and care for
their relatives while respecting their privacy. This offering from
ConnectedLife with Fujitsu, uses Microsoft Azure-based cloud to support the
safety of older adults who are living independently while providing their
family members with peace of mind.

Fujitsu’s powerful and comprehensive Resident
Monitoring Solution (RMS) is incorporated into ConnectedLife’s sleep wellness
and bedroom safety module to enhance its intelligent independent living
service. RMS consists of sensitive and reliable sound sensors and Fujitsu’s
proprietary sensor algorithms for behavioral analysis. RMS sensors work passively in the background to
detect activities as the older adults go about their daily sleep routines. The
collected data, in the form of motion and sounds, are sent to the sensor algorithm
which is installed on ConnectedLife’s Microsoft Azure cloud platform for
analysis. Over time, the sensor algorithms will learn what an older adult’s
behaviour is normally like, and can detect anomalies in that behaviour.

The inclusion of RMS, with its deep analytics
capabilities, provides ConnectedLife subscribers with real-time updates, such
as loud noise which may be a result of a fall, or coughs, snoring and other
environmental factors like temperature and humidity which may impact the quality
of sleep. Poor sleep and in-room movements during expected rest times can be a
cause of concern for family members. ConnectedLife alerts and updates are
delivered through wearables, smartphones and web applications which are
optimized for every family member, from children to older adults and
professional care providers. RMS also includes an emergency call button that
users can activate as needed to contact emergency services or a family member
immediately.

solutions for the global ageing population including Independent Living,
Chronic Illness Management and functional care for Orthopaedic Conditions and
Parkinson’s Disease. Our partnership with Fujitsu’s IoT solution provides a
further level of insight about the quality of sleep for our older adults which can
impact their day and overall well-being. The emergency button and speaker

April 2017 following a six-month trial in the city-state. ConnectedLife plans
to bring to bring this to Australia by July 2017, and then to Europe
thereafter. ConnectedLife is targeting to reach at least 70% of those aged over
65 who live alone in each target country with the new service.
