Gumtree Goes Mobile with New Exciting App
Gumtree mobile app brings buyers and sellers even closer with innovative exclusive features
Singapore, September, 15 September 2014 – Gumtree, Singapore’s number 1 free online classifieds, today officially announced its new mobile app launch especially designed for the city state based on users’ feedback. Ready in store for FREE download on Android and Apple iOS (compatible with the soon-to-be released iOS 8) devices, the free Gumtree mobile app offers a host of new exciting features, more than just a mobile-optimized version of its website, some of which are exclusive only to the mobile app.
“As smartphone penetration in Singapore is one of the highest in the world, Gumtree aims to bring the best mobile app experience for users to buy and sell easily anytime, anywhere. It is especially created for those who primarily use their mobile phones in their everyday lives, thus ensuring that they won’t miss any good bargains even while on the go,” said Terry Wong, Regional Product Director, Gumtree Singapore.
One of the key exclusive features on the Gumtree mobile app is the personalized homepage with contextualized content, which is automatically recommended by the app based on previous users’ browsing behaviors. To further facilitate easy viewing on a smaller screen, ads are also intuitively organized in a gallery style.

Convenient cross-platform compatibility is another highlight, providing a seamless transition between mobile and desktop, and vice versa – once a favorite item has been identified, it is stored in a user’s universal watch list and retrievable from all devices. Similarly, real-time chat is also supported, complete with instant push notification, facilitating any trading activities to be followed through anytime and anywhere.
To date, over 300,000 ads are listed on Gumtree, attracting a staggering 1.5 million unique visitors a month and a million page views a day. On average, Gumtree monitors 1,000 activities every hour, generating over 23,000 trading activities every day. This is an indication that buying and selling pre-owned goods online is getting increasingly popular in Singapore.
According to a recent study conducted by Gumtree earlier this year, more than 80% of Singaporeans are already purchasing pre-owned goods online, while 76% of them are selling goods they no longer need. Online sites, such as forums and classified websites like Gumtree, have been cited as the preferred platform due to their hassle-free and immediate nature.
By pairing this lifestyle mobile app with its classified business, Gumtree brings its buyers and sellers even closer through a unified platform, making trading activities personal as well as faster and simpler at the same time.
