I know some of you at least knew about custom mechanical keyboards because you accidentally watched a recommended video on YouTube and it won’t stop bombarding contents to your home page. For Singaporeans, aside from the good old name of Mecha, we have another shop popping up and that’s The Laboratory.
Set to officially launch on August 2, The Laboratory more or less runs its shop like others if you’ve been to a keyboard shop – Loads of prebuilt keyboards on display to try out, a bunch of switches lining up for display, a whole range of keycaps and accessories to choose from.
Aside from the classics of Akko and Gateron to Monsgeek and Keychron, they are also bringing in brands like Nuphy, Wooting, and many more. Those who want the “cheating gaming keyboard” could get their hands on one, in-stock and no hassle purchase.
Since they are custom keyboard enthusiasts as well, they have several stations ready to guide you to build one from scratch:
- 1st Station – Select the keyboard case from layouts, materials, and sizes
- 2nd Station – Switch selection and optional mods like foam kits
- 3rd Station – Choose the most suitable keycap set
- 4th Station – Test all the key inputs and sound of the keyboard
The shop will also be showcasing several exclusive and rare keyboards (as any keyboard shop would be). Although these prized collections might be not for sale, perhaps there will be a time when recurring group buys will come back (I’m looking at you SingaKBD) and you might be able to win the chance to get it.
