Better late than never, AMD has announced the arrival of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE which was once a China-exclusive model.
The GRE stands for Golden Rabbit Edition since last year’s Chinese Zodiac rotation was the Year of the Rabbit so no issue there but 2024’s Year of the Dragon so I am a bit confused as why they want to reuse the GRE naming (at least give it DRE?).
But anyway, it seems like the competition it is aiming against is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 shown through the global SRP of $549. Hosting 80 Compute Units (CUs) and 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM, the boost frequency is set to 2245MHz with the game frequency being 1880MHz.
Although the card can technically do both 1440p and 4K gaming, the former seems to be the more sensible choice here as it can almost guarantee high graphic settings and fast frame rates without relying much on AI tech.
Of course, if you’re fine with that, consider using all of those things like Radeon Fluid Motion Frames, Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Super Resolution, etc, to make 4K gaming as plausible as you can.
Speaking of AI, the native 160 AI accelerators help in sorts of game-related tasks as well as LLMs and image generative models without breaking the bank as well as DisplayPort 2.1 and AV1 encode for futureproofing.

Selected AIB partners are shipping out their own versions of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE such as SAPPHIRE’s Nitro+ and PULSE models.
