LITE-ON is one of the world’s largest OEM. In fact, they have manufactured products for big brands such as Microsoft, Roccat, Lenovo and Dell. You can find out more about some of their works in our coverage of the tour of the LITE-ON office last year.
SSD assembly and module manufacturing is a key business for the company as well. In fact, based on the market share of branded SSD module makers for 2017, LITE-ON holds 3% of the global channel market. This year, we were introduced to a large part of LITE-ON’s SSD products.
Strong in Firmware Development
LITE-ON prides themselves in the development of firmware for SSD modules. By having a full firmware development team in house, they have differentiated themselves from competition in the market. Here are some of the latest technologies that were employed by LITE-ON either through their firmware or the use of other means such as big data analytics.
- Telemetric Data Monitoring and Analyzing – by real-time collection and analysis on SMART and customized data formats from the SSD, LITE-ON has got their own unique way for the indication of drive health status and detection of abnormal activities. With such information, they can inform users to replace or retire their drives with issues to prevent any data loss prior to full drive failure. With real-time Telemetric Data Monitoring/Analyzing deployed into large scale applications, trends across multiple deployments can be used to analyse the quality and reliability of their products and predict common risks.
- Data Security – LITE-ON SSDs can be equipped with their Opal service, which offers a built-in AES256-XTS encruption support. This protects all data going through the media automatically without any impact to drive performance. Moreover, to prevent rootkit or unauthorized access to the SSD, a digital signature is also required to boot the drive up to ensure system integrity. This also prevents any malware installed onto the drives and maintains a root of trust capability.
Huge range of SSDs for different use cases
Of course, LITE-ON also has got a range of SSDs that have been made ready for OEM adoption. They comes in different form factors and features, and will be suitable for various industries and use cases. Below are some of the models that were showed to us.
As we can see, LITE-ON has really got a rather large range of SSDs that are made for different use cases. Each model comes with their unique set of features, such as temperature monitoring, power loss protection, encryption, over voltage protection, over current protection and many more. There must be a kind of SSD that will be suitable for any application.
LITE-ON also produces SSDs for the consumer market under the Plextor brand. We’ve talked about the latest Plextor M10Pe SSD in our coverage earlier. You can head over there to find out more.
