Huawei just announced that their upcoming Mate 20 series, the successor to their well-received Mate 10, will be powered by the world’s the first 7nm chipset. As compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 which uses the 10nm manufacturing process, the supposed Kirin 980 could be ahead in efficiency and performance. With the development of their chipsets starting as early as 2015, seeing it in action during the coming launch somewhere in October is not out of the world!
Let us go through the leaked specifications of the Kirin 980. The new chipset might consist of A55 and the recently announced A76, with 4 cores respectively. The A76 comes with 35% increased performance and 40% efficiency over its predecessor, the A75. It also has 4x better performance in AI and Machine Learning computations, which can help propel the Mate 20 further into the AI game.
Will we get to see P20’s triple-camera setup in the Mate 20? What other innovations will we see in the coming Huawei flagship devices? Stay tuned and we’ll share what we come across!
