GIGABYTE AERO 15
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It was probably love at first sight when we came across the AERO 15 Gaming Laptop at COMPUTEX 2017. Its thin 5mm display bezel and minimalist design sure got us the attention that it was seeking for.
No one knew who started with the whole concept that gaming laptops should be full of exaggerated designs and curves… I personally find fancy RGB lights and designs that are out of the way to be rather meaningless. The humble AERO 15 did away with all the design notions of a typical gaming laptop, and stuck to a simple and minimal design. The actual product looks mesmerizing.
Other than being considerably thin and light, the AERO 15 laptops are also extremely powerful, as they are all equipped with the latest and greatest gaming tuned hardware. Here are the specifications :
- Intel Core i7-7700HQ
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU
- X-Rite Pantone Certified Display
- FullHD or UHD Display
- 2 x M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD
- 2 x DDR4 Memory
- 94Wh Huge Battery Capacity
- 1.9cm slim , 2.1Kg
The left side of the AERO 15 spots a Gigabit LAN port, a USB 3 port, a HDMI 2.0 port, a Thunderbolt 3 port and a microphone/headphone jack. The right side features a SDCard slot, a USB Type-C port, 2 x USB 3 port, the power jack and a kensington key lock hole.
The back of the AERO 15 is also topped with a stylish carbon fibre pattern, and has a great textured surface to it. It is available in black, orange and green.
GIGABYTE did their best to reduce the impacts of the tradeoff between performance and portability. By integrating a slim display bezel design and challenging the limits, they have tried their best to put a 15.6 inch gaming laptop into a 14 inch laptop’s form factor. This has increased the portability of the whole gaming system.
However, the looks of the AERO 15 may deceive you, as the laptop still weighs 2.1Kg. This is rather heavy as compared to any other non-gaming notebook computers of today. Regardless, if a portable gaming laptop is what you are looking for, the we would definitely recommend the AERO 15. If you are looking for something slightly lighter, perhaps you can look out for the smaller AERO 14 that is armed with a GTX 1050Ti instead.
GIGABYTE AERO 14
The GIGABYTE AERO 14 is the smaller sibling. It weighs 1.89kg, about 200g lighter than the AERO 15. However, the AERO 14 does not come with the sleek looking bezel-less display from the AERO 15. If I had a choice, I would have still chosen the AERO 15.
