According to Twitter’s official blog, Twitter users are encouraged to tweet their observations and opinions about #PressFreedom.
This is made in conjunction with United Nation’s World Press Freedom Day. Since 3 May 1993, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek is celebrated as the World Press Freedom Day to access the state of press freedom throughout the world and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in their line of duty.
Twitter has been recognised as an open platform that allows real-world communication and is valued as a source of information and news. Many news corporations and journalists have been active users of Twitter to disseminate short messages of breaking news.
