Sources pointed out that even though HTC One and Butterfly uses different materials for its body, they are both part of HTC’s high end Android smartphone product line and boast very similar specifications. HTC One currently uses a metallic body while Butterfly has a polycarbonate body.
Therefore, instead of making two devices competing with one another in the same market segment, HTC has decided to unify both product lines into one, but also manufacturing smartphones of different body materials in the same product line. This approach is somewhat similar with Samsung’s Galaxy product line. This also means that there will be more variants of phones in the same HTC One product line which will consist of metal, polycarbonate, mini, phablet, etc types of phones. Or to put it simply, it’s just a matter of reorganizing their branding system to put all high end devices under one name so that customers know what kind of phone they are buying.
It has also been reported that HTC will be coming out with a refreshed HTC One later this year. The new HTC One will come with a Snapdragon 800 Processor, while the polycarbonate HTC One will come only in sometime next year. Additionally, HTC will also launch a new flagship HTC M8 device next year.
