Citigroup research department has predicted that Apple will launch a cheaper iPad mini with their research. The new iPad mini is said to be priced at 250USD, which is around 320SGD. There are also rumours that the production cost of the new budget iPad mini is in fact around 100USD lower than the current first generation iPad mini. The research group thinks that the previously rumoured budget iPad could in fact come in a iPad mini form factor. At the same time, Apple will still launch another standard non-budget higher spec-ed iPad mini which will remain at the current USD329 price point.
In the same survey, the research group also got confirmation from Apple supply chain partners that Apple is indeed working on a cheaper budget product.
There are also rumours that the next iPad mini 2 will be equipped with Retina display. There is no doubt that this will increase the manufacturing cost of the product. However, it seems that Apple is still able to keep the SRP of the product to be at 329USD. If what CitiGroup has predicted is true, we will not only see a new budget iPhone for the market, but also a budget iPad mini.
