18 December 2012 – Ngee Ann Computer Club hosted their first application development workshop for the polytechnic. The workshop attracted more than 40 students and even lecturers to join and learn about Windows 8 application development using HTML5. The workshop was targetted for beginners who had no prior knowledge on HTML and programming, therefore titled :” From the Grounds Up: Windows 8 Application Development with HTML5″
The workshop lasted for 3 days from 17th December. Participants were given an introduction to HTML5 technologies and were taught HTML5, CSS and Javascript to make their applications work. On the 2nd day, they were taught the design concepts of Windows 8 to better design their application for better user experience. Throughout the event, student helpers were deployed to help the participants with their codes and applications.

Participants were teamed up to create a Windows 8 Application by the end of the workshop. They brainstormed on various kinds of ideas and discussed with the student leaders to discuss the feasibility of the applications to be completed for presentation on the 3rd day.

We were glad that everyone had a great time at the development workshop and hackathon. Everyone learnt something new about Windows 8 Development, and were happy that they can create applications on any platforms they like to with HTML5.
