Nothing’s Community Edition Project has finally concluded through the release of the Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition.
Released through the combined efforts of the brand and the community, they gathered more than 900 entries from 47 countries to launch its first ever co-created product. The winners are Astrid Vanhuyse & Kenta Akasaki, Andrés Mateos, Ian Henry Simmonds, and Sonya Palma who worked together as well in selected categories to bring the project into reality.
Here’s a quick rundown on the details for each phase:
- Stage 1 (Hardware Design) – Astrid Vanhuyse & Kenta Akasaki collaborated with Nothing’s Design Director Adam Bates and CMF Designer Lucy Birley to experiment on phosphorescent materials and green-tinted finishes to create the “Phosphorescence” concept, allowing the back to glow in the dark
- Stage 2 (Wallpaper Design) – Andrés Mateos used AI tools and digital design to create the “Connected Collection.” Originally tasked with four wallpapers, Andrés expanded the set to six with input from Nothing’s Software Design Director Mladen M Hoyss and Software Designer Ken Giang
- Stage 3 (Packaging Design) – Ian Henry Simmonds reimagined Nothing’s packaging with a “Less is More” approach, featuring a bold macro-crop design and reflective elements that glow in the dark to harmonize with the winning hardware concept
- Stage 4 (Marketing Campaign) – Sonya Palma crafted a compelling campaign titled “Find your light. Capture your light,” inspired by Nothing’s first product launch, which emphasized instinctual creativity. she and the official team produced an array of assets, including a film campaign, to support the product’s launch
