CD PROJEKT RED has finally given the green light to all GeForce RTX gamers at home the ability to access the anticipated Overdrive Mode for Cyberpunk 2077.
As reported previously, the new Overdrive Mode essentially means flipping every RTX ON switch and cranking the slider to the maximum, or you may know it as path tracing or full ray tracing. But just for clarity and technicality’s sake, this mode actually revolves almost entirely around path tracing – the next-generation lighting technique that incorporates the spirit of ray tracing while solving some of the underlying issues resulting in true lifelike and physically accurate shadows, contrasts, and more.
Quoting official results, native 4K without DLSS 3 only nets 19FPS even with the RTX 4090 but with that AI tech turned on, a respectable near-100FPS can be achieved – further spelling the importance of the AI-generated frame technology for things that are just too heavy to compute by general meanings. As such, only the RTX 3090/3090 Ti for the 30 series and the RTX 4070 Ti /4080/4090 are officially supported.
4 new titles embrace DLSS 2
On the other hand, the more generally available DLSS 2 sees adoption by four new games which are Everspace 2, High on Life, LEAP, and Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and gamers can enjoy them right now to lower the load on the GPU while gaining more FPS for a smooth and steady gameplay experience.
Although all the updates are delivered to the games via patches, be sure to update your GeForce Game Ready driver to the latest version if you haven’t already.
