Microsoft is not giving up on the 3.5mm audio jack

In order to achieve a slimmer smartphone profile, Apple has removed the 3.5mm audio jack on their flagship iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices. It is believed that many other manufacturers will follow suit and move in that direction as well. However, Microsoft does not agree with this move by Apple. The 3.5mm audio jack will be a minimum requirement for any Windows 10 Mobile devices, as they consider this interface as a “must have” for a complete smartphone.

In reality, even though CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella and other Microsoft leaders has repeatedly iterated that they will not give up on their mobile business, there aren’t much actions from the company in the smartphone market. There were previously even rumours that Microsoft will possibly kill off the Lumia brand.

We understand that Microsoft has been putting their hopes on the upcoming Surface Phone device. Satya Nadella has publicly announced that this smartphone will be Microsoft’s ultimate device for all consumers. It is said that the new flagship smartphone from Microsoft will be available from Spring next year.
