NEC releases new “EXPRESSCLUSTER” clustering software that allows standby servers to rest through data mirroring on the cloud
– Helps reduce the cost of business operations-
Tokyo, October 14, 2015 – NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced the launch of the latest instalment of its EXPRESSCLUSTER series, the “EXPRESSCLUSTER D” geared for meeting tough business continuity requirements for mission critical systems.
The EXPRESSCLUSTER D allows direct transfer of clustering data from local environments to cloud embedded object storage, allowing such data to be sent to standby servers which are only activated when failures are present. This is expected to significantly reduce the operational costs of the standby servers.
Moreover, in addition to existing mirroring functions allowing both Synchronized and Asynchronized mirroring, data can also be recovered to a designated recovery point with the new ”Snapshot Mode.”
Furthermore, adding “EXPRESSCLUSTER D DR Option 1.0” enables Multi-stage Mirroring, allowing mirroring across multiple locations and systems, so business continuity can be maintained even under critical system failures and natural disasters.
“With the ever increasing demand for ICT systems to remain available and active 24/7 we are seeing increasing demands from corporations looking to clustering software in preparation for system failures and natural disasters,” said Nobuhiko Kishinoue, General Manager, Cloud Platform Division, NEC Corporation. “In recent years, the trend has shifted towards mirroring data to cloud environments, where NEC’s technologies enable significant cost reductions in the initial installation stage.”
“Conventionally, the requirement of having an active standby server running has always been an issue for many. The EXPRESSCLUSTER D series solves such issues by the use of object storage within a cloud environment, diminishing the requirement for an actively running standby server, which reduces cost while ensuring safe and efficient system operation.”
The EXPRESSCLUSTER D is “Chef” (OSS developed by Chef) ready, allowing user-friendly automated installation and setup.
