According to a blog post from Twitter, Twitter has just announced the removal of the 140 character limitation in Direct Messages. This also means that direct messages will work like any other instant messaging platform, and users will be able to type what they want in more than 140 characters. They had initially publicized this change earlier in June and it is now effective in all Twitter platforms, including iOS, Android, Web, Mac and TweetDesk.
However, your usual tweet still retains its 140 characters limit.
Twitter has stated that this change can improve the user experience of direct messaging, making Twitter more a more powerful platform.
