AMD demonstrated a dual-GPU Radeon HD7990 a while back at GDC 2013. This finished product is codenamed “Malta” and should be ready for production and released to the market soon.
In 2012, AMD allowed AIB Partners to design and produce a single-card dual-GPU 7970 x 2. The manufacturers decided to name and brand them the Radeon HD7990, even before AMD’s official release of the cards. We have seen PowerColor, VTX3D, Club3D with their 7990 offerings and more recently ASUS ROG ARES II.
However, those cards from manufacturers are codenamed “New Zealand”, but the new card will be known as “Malta” .
The showcased Radeon HD 7990 uses three 90mm fan for active fan cooling and it requires 2 PCIe 8 PIN plugs to power it.
AMD has not talked much about the HD 7990 (Malta), but we are expecting them to go into details at COMPUTEX 2013 in June, where “Malta” cards from AMD’s AIB partners will probably be shown as well.
