A consortium of Sweden’s leading companies, including AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Saab, and SEB, has joined forces with NVIDIA and Wallenberg Investments to build a next-generation AI infrastructure in Sweden.
The project, announced today, will deploy NVIDIA’s latest Grace Blackwell GB300-powered DGX SuperPODs, marking the largest enterprise AI supercomputer initiative in the country to date.
The system will be operated by a jointly established company, providing secure and sovereign AI compute resources to the participating industry partners with its first phase including two DGX SuperPODs designed to run compute-heavy AI workloads such as domain-specific model training, large-scale inference, and reasoning AI.
Beyond hardware deployment, NVIDIA plans to establish its first AI Technology Center in Sweden with a major focus on accelerating AI research in collaboration with Swedish industry leaders and providing training through NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute.
Each consortium member brings a specific focus to the initiative:
- AstraZeneca will leverage the system for AI-enabled drug discovery and foundation model development.
- Ericsson aims to enhance network performance and customer experience through advanced AI modeling.
- Saab will accelerate the development of AI-enhanced defense systems.
- SEB plans to use AI for productivity improvements and to develop new customer-facing services.
The partnership underscores a broader trend of national AI infrastructure development as countries and corporations race to secure technological sovereignty. Sweden’s model of public-private collaboration around sovereign compute access and AI talent development could serve as a blueprint for other regions aiming to stay competitive in the AI-driven economy.
