ASUS is on a roll recently because its extreme enthusiasts class workstation motherboard Pro WS W790E-SAGE SE is making headlines in the overclocking scene.
Used by some of the best overclockers around the world including Der8auer, OGS Team, Safedisk, Shamino, SkatterBencher, Elmor, and Hagugu, the Pro WS W790E-SAGE SE workstation motherboard has achieved 10 world records and 23 1st-place in a wide range of performance benchmarks running the new Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids W9-3495X with 56 cores, a mixed selection between G-SKILL and V-Color DDR5 RAM, and other key components from Enermax.
Different from past offerings, the Pro WS W790E-SAGE SE has been engineered to take on the most daunting task when it comes to trade-offs between performance and stability by offering both while working within safety limits. Running advanced BIOS settings and coupled with robust materials, it can handle close to 2000W and is capable of taking the Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids W9-3495X up to approximately 5.4 GHz
Based on Der8auer and SkatterBencher’s hands-on with the board, the former faced challenges related to memory modules where 8 slots contain twice as many pins to deal with and condensation problems could occur when doing LN2 cooling, resulting in finding the right temperature balance being the key to achieve record-breaking numbers. But he’s impressed with everything else that can push the CPU to the maximum limit.
For the latter, the W790 series turned SkatterBencher’s impression on the motherboard and now says that it is one of the smoothest to custom-tune the CPU. Through his experience with water cooling, he also took advantage of the water-cooling profile in the BIOS that leads to a straight 40% boost in performance right away.
