SHOPEE SPONSORS LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR ALEX FOO TO THE GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUMMIT 2016
Training and development workshops by Alex Foo will be rolled out as part of Shopee’s ongoing commitment to groom the next generation of entrepreneurs in Singapore.
Singapore, Tuesday, 12th July 2016 – Shopee, Garena’s[1] ecommerce platform, has sponsored local entrepreneur Alex Foo, Co-owner of Starteur, to the recent Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2016 – reaffirming the company’s philosophy in developing Singapore’s next generation of budding entrepreneurs. The summit saw a congregation of over 700 entrepreneurs from around the world, creating new opportunities for investment, partnership and collaboration. Through a range of workshops and panel discussions by industry experts, the summit harnessed entrepreneurship as a tool to address some of the most pressing economic challenges.
As part of the sponsorship program, Alex will be conducting two Shopee University workshops to share his experiences at GES 2016, his growth as an entrepreneur and best practices of the ecommerce industry.
“I am very grateful to be one of the seven Singaporeans invited to attend the GES 2016, alongside other esteemed global entrepreneurs. The experiences were instrumental to my growth as a business owner and I had the opportunity to interact with successful entrepreneurs across various touchpoints. Shopee University gives me the platform to connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs in Singapore and serves as a launch pad for more robust business ideas. Through this initiative, I am confident that we can empower the next generation of entrepreneurs and send a bigger contingent to GES 2017,’ said Alex Foo, Co-owner of Starteur.
Chris Feng, Chief Executive Office of Shopee said, “Shopee University stands grounded in the ethos that anyone can be an entrepreneur. We are proud to have sponsored Alex for this global event and even more so because he shares the same ideals as us. To empower budding entrepreneurs of the new economy, we remain committed to enhancing our community with initiatives such as Shopee University.”
During the summit, Alex was mentored by 15 seasoned investors and had the opportunity to pitch and receive feedback on his business. Alex attended keynote speeches from President Obama, Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Brin and Nina Vaca. He will share the strategic knowledge on project execution and cultural differences between entrepreneurs in Singapore and Silicon Valley acquired during his time at GES 2016 at the Shopee University workshops.
Apart from acting as a community to share entrepreneurial experiences, Shopee University’s curriculum is developed based on the best practices of Shopee’s top sellers’ ecommerce skills. With its ethos grounded in empowerment through tools, Shopee University offers courses ranging from photography to online marketing and even search engine optimisation.
