The new 2.5″ 5mm WD Blue series of hard drives have already been shipped out to OEM use. These news come from WD’s official announcement at IDF 2013 at San Francisco.
The press release has pointed out that Western Digital has officially released their WD Blue 5mm and WD Black sshd. However, there weren’t a lot of information on the new WD Black.
The new hard drive is the market’s thinnest hard drive and it comes currently only in a 500GB capacity. Its model number is WD5000MPCK. Similar to the 9.5mm and 7mm drives, the Blue 5mm spins at 5400RPM and has a SATA 6Gb/s interface.
The new drive has a two-year warranty and is suggested to retail at 89USD. The drive is already shipped out and will reach major markets soon.
