At Mobile World Congress 2013, ASUS announced the launch of one of their new product, named PadFone Infinity. While many are already familiar with the ASUS PadFone concept, there were many shortcomings in PadFone 2. Back in our review of PadFone 2, we talked about the limitations of PadFone station which only gave users a measly 1280 x 720 resolution on a 10.1 inch display. While we get the advantage of a bigger screen size on the PadFone Station, we lost some clarity in terms of ppi when converting Padfone 2 from smartphone mode into tablet mode. However, today at MWC, ASUS answered to our worries and announced that PadFone Infinity will come on a 10.1inch display of 1920 x 1200.
PadFone Infinity uses Google Android 4.1.2 Operating system. The screen size has increased from the previous 4.7 inch to 5 inch and a 1080p display resolution. The number of pixels per inch has inceased to 441. The Tablet docking station is a 10.1 inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, higher than previous 1280 x 800. However, the brightness level was reduces from 500nit to 400nit to extend the battery life.
PadFone Infinity is equipped with a quad-core 1.7GHz latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip and an Adreno 320 GPU. In addition, this product also has 2GB of RAM and comes in either 32GB or 64GB variants. As for connectivity, we are assured of LTE network, WiFi( Not sure if it’s new Wireless AC standard), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, A-GPS and GLONASS.
A representative from ASUS claims that the new PadFone Infinity will use a nano-SIM found on the iPhone 5 instead of more commonly used micro-SIM. It also answers to avid instagramer’s call for high megapixel cameras. PadFone Infinity comes with a 13 Megapixel autofocus f/2.0 lens camera with LED flash. The camera also has the capabilities of taking up to eight frames still pictures per second. Moreover, there is also a front 2 megapixel camera for video chatting. PadFone Infinity has a 2400 mAh battery that allows it to have a 19 hours 3G talktime and even up to 40 hours when connected to the docking station.
Similar to previous PadFone, PadFone infinity will not be launched in the United States, but will arrive in April for the Europe market. PadFone Infinity bundled with its docking station will cost 999 Euros. PadFone Infinity will also be launched in Asia, but we still haven’t heard any specific details on it. As for colour variety, PadFone Infinity comes in Gray, Gold and Pink.
