How to Port Forward: Mio Box
Port forwarding is, in a nutshell, the act of opening certain ‘doors’ on your router to allow for incoming and outgoing connections. It is typically used for allowing certain programs that use a specific port to access the internet, such as P2P programs like BitTorrent. In can also be used to speed up the ul/dl speeds of the program since it becomes less restricted now. This tutorial shows you how to portforward on your mio box if you are using the Singtel Mio plan.
As with all routers, you need to access the router home page where all the settings are available. For mio, simply type http://home/ in your address bar. Do note that this has only worked in IE. It hasn’t worked on Firefox and Chrome for me thus far. Now click on the Firewall tab then advanced settings.
Select a host computer, which should be your own computer name. Now select the application or program that youintend to port forward. The program is usually no in the list unless it’s a common program. Then again if it was, you wouldn’t need to port forward in the first place. So click on ‘Add a new user-defined application”
Now under App Name, put the program name.
Definition would be TCP or UDP depending on the program
Port range would be the port number of your program, now this you have to find out. Sometimes its in the preferences option, other times you might have to google it. If it is a single port, simply use the same number for the From and To.
Now click done then remember to click on the add button to bring it to the allowed list
Click done one final time, and you’re done.
