Samsung has launched two USB4 portable solid-state drives in Singapore, led by the performance-focused P9 and accompanied by the more broadly positioned P7. Both will be sold in capacities from 1TB to 8TB, with local recommended retail prices starting at S$459 for the P9 and S$388 for the P7.
The P9 is available now exclusively through the Samsung Online Store. Samsung says the P7 will be available from 10 October 2026 through its online store and selected retail partners.

P9 reaches up to 4,000MB/s over USB4
Samsung rates the P9 for sequential read speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and sequential writes of up to 3,800MB/s when used with the included cable under its internal test conditions. Actual throughput will depend on the host device, cable and system environment.
The company describes that as approximately twice the performance of its previous-generation T9 portable SSD. Samsung is pitching the additional bandwidth at workflows involving large RAW images and ultra-high-resolution video, and says the drive supports direct recording at up to 12K resolution. TTR has not independently tested its transfer performance or recording compatibility.

Samsung also calls the 8TB model the world's first USB4 portable SSD at that capacity to support speeds up to 4,000MB/s. That is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified market survey. The P9 was named a CES 2026 Innovation Awards honoree; as the Consumer Technology Association notes, those awards are based on submitted descriptive materials and do not constitute independent product testing.
P7 targets storage across more everyday devices
The P7 also uses USB4, but Samsung's Singapore announcement does not state its exact sequential read and write figures. The company instead emphasises compatibility across desktops, laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles and cameras for transferring and backing up files.

Samsung says both P Series drives have been tested to withstand drops of up to two metres as well as shock and vibration. The announcement does not specify an ingress-protection rating, warranty period or detailed durability test standard, so those claims should not be read as protection against every accident or operating environment.

Available capacities can vary by market, and Samsung says certain versions may arrive later. Labelled capacity uses decimal measurement, so formatted usable capacity will be lower after system files and maintenance space are accounted for.
