BIOSTAR has rolled out a new industrial-grade system called the EdgeComp MS-N97 that adds yet another option to its EdgeComp family of edge-focused computing solutions.
Similar to some other models, this is clearly targeting smart retail setups like kiosks, vending machines, and digital signage through its small and efficient form factor yet solid performance thanks to the Intel Alder Lake-N N97 CPU quad-core chip with 3.6GHz boost clock at just 12W TDP, allowing it to operate without a fan.
Graphics-wise, it’s got integrated Intel UHD Graphics, which handles things like live menus and interactive displays pretty smoothly. On the connectivity front, it checks all the boxes: dual 2.5GbE LAN, HDMI 2.0, DP++ 1.4 for multi-display setups, plus a wide mix of USB and COM ports to hook up barcode scanners, payment terminals, smart cams—you name it.
What’s even more interesting is its support for edge AI accelerators like MemryX and HAILO, which means retailers can tap into real-time analytics and automation directly on-site without needing to rely on cloud processing. It supports up to 16GB of DDR5 RAM, has room for M.2 NVMe or SATA storage, and can run on 9–24V DC input for flexibility and harsh environments, as well as operating in temps from 0°C to 60°C and high humidity.
It also supports a range of OS options, including Windows 10/11, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, and Ubuntu 20.04, which makes it super adaptable for developers and integrators. Whether it’s powering self-checkout kiosks, running surveillance, or pushing digital ads, the EdgeComp MS-N97 looks like a solid, low-profile solution for today’s connected retail spaces.
