CLEAResult has introduced a new power supply certification called 80 PLUS Ruby, now positioned as the most efficient tier in the 80 PLUS rating system. Aimed squarely at enterprise environments, the Ruby certification targets data centers and AI server deployments that require top-tier power efficiency under varying loads.
Initially revealed in March, the Ruby rating pushes typical load efficiency up to 96.5%, slightly edging out the previously highest Titanium rating, which offered up to 96% at 50% load. Though the improvement may seem marginal, the impact scales significantly in large-scale operations like data centers, where even a 0.5% gain can translate into substantial energy and cost savings.
As the new best tier, it actually performs quite consistently across all load levels with 91% at 10% load, 95% at 20%, and 92% at full load. They even come with a segment tagging 90% efficiency at just 5% load which is a key advantage for servers running low-resource tasks or idling during off-peak hours.
Delta Electronics, a major player in the PSU market, has announced a 5,500W Ruby-certified power supply designed for AI servers, claiming an exceptional 97.5% efficiency. While such high-efficiency units are expected to remain within the enterprise market for now, the Ruby certification signals a broader push toward energy optimization in compute-intensive environments.
With increasing demand for sustainable infrastructure, especially in AI and cloud services, the 80 PLUS Ruby standard could become a new benchmark in green computing, even if its consumer adoption remains limited.
