Qualcomm has announced a new line of processors called the Snapdragon G series made for handheld gaming.
Revealed during GDC 2025, the lineup includes the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, G2 Gen 2, and G1 Gen 2—ranked from most to least powerful. All three feature 8-core Kryo CPUs, but the key difference lies in the configuration of Prime, Performance, and Efficiency cores.
GPU performance also scales across the lineup. The flagship G3 Gen 3 boasts an A32 GPU supporting ray tracing and Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen lighting system. In terms of connectivity, both the G3 and G2 support Wi-Fi 7, while the G1 Gen 2 is limited to Wi-Fi 5.
Based on these specifications, it’s clear the G1 Gen 2 targets entry-level devices, the G2 Gen 2 serves as the mainstream option, while the G3 Gen 3 caters to high-performance handhelds—offering either smoother gameplay or the ability to run resource-intensive titles.
Qualcomm also confirmed partnerships with OEMs like AYANEO, ONEXSUGAR, and Retroid Pocket, all set to launch devices powered by the new Snapdragon G series chips.
The goal is to give gamers the freedom to enjoy cloud, console, Android, or PC games on the go.
That said, it remains unclear if these handhelds will require Android OS exclusively or if alternatives like Windows on ARM or SteamOS will be compatible.
