One of the latest initiatives launched by Team Green over at NVIDIA GTC 2024 is about telecommunications, particularly the 6G cellular network technology.
Officially named the NVIDIA 6G Research Cloud platform, it allows researchers to develop the upcoming cellular connection standards with a novel approach that utilizes AI in Radio Access Network (RAN).
With trillions of devices projected to harness the power of 6G involving autonomous vehicles, smart spaces, and more XR/MR among other things, ecosystem partners and a portion of early adopters have been announced as well, particularly, Ansys, Arm, ETH Zurich, Fujitsu, Keysight, Nokia, Northeastern University, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, SoftBank Corp., and Viavi.
The platform will be targeting 3 fundamental aspects:
- NVIDIA Aerial Omniverse Digital Twin for 6G: A development sample that fully simulates a complete 6G system with software-defined RAN and user equipment deployed across realistic terrain and objects
- NVIDIA Aerial CUDA-Accelerated RAN: Allows acceleration of 6G networks in real-time through transmission efficiency improvements and customization
- NVIDIA Sionna Neural Radio Framework: A base framework that connects seamlessly with PyTorch and TensorFlow which in turn is supported by NVIDIA GPUs for data generation, capture, and training; Leading link-level research tool for AI/ML-based wireless simulations NVIDIA Sionna is also included.
