ASUS has revealed a whack ton of new laptops at CES 2024 and this post will cover the ROG and TUF Gaming laptops so let’s hop in.
In this age dominated by all things “AI-assisted,” ROG has handpicked the Zephyrus G14 and G16 to take on the responsibility. The former is rocking the new AMD Ryzen 8000 series processor with Ryzen AI, while the latter struts its stuff with the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. GPU range is listed as up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU for the G14 and up to RTX 4090 Laptop GPU for the G16 instead.
Let’s dive into the unique features first. Both machines boast the shiny new OLED-based ROG Nebula Display, promising a gaming experience that’s color-perfect and smoother than a buttered slide. Crafted in collaboration with the maestros at NVIDIA and Samsung Display, these panels proudly hold the title of being among the earliest G-SYNC OLED panels in the market.
Switching gears to design, the chassis has undergone a facelift for the new year, sporting the chic Slash Lighting array on the lid and is fully customizable with lights but before that, pick your poison first: the classic Eclipse Gray or the eye-blinding Platinum White.
Don’t think they forgot about the weight game; the Zephyrus G14 is a featherweight at 1.5kg and 1.59cm thick, while the G16, a bit bulkier but still sleek, clocks in at 1.85kg and 1.49cm thick.
Cooling down the heat, the Zephyrus G14 flexes with Thermal Grizzly liquid metal on the CPU, triple cooling fans, and 2nd Gen Arc Flow Fans. As for the G16 and since it needs to tackle the most powerful config, it is given a full custom vapor chamber and dual-fan design.
To sweeten the deal for gamers ready to dive in, each unit ships with a golden ticket of 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate!
Now, onto the Strix family. The SCAR 16 and SCAR 18 will be the earliest Strix model to experience the ROG Nebula HDR Display which is expanded to cover the big 18-inch model for that MiniLED backlight with over 2,000 dimming zones for superior contrast and brightness control.
Not just a feast for the eyes, these laptops are built for the competitive gaming arena thanks to the panel churning out 2.5K resolution, a blistering 240Hz refresh rate, and 3ms GtG response time. The 16:10 aspect ratio and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut are always good things to have though.
Now for the TUF Gaming family, the trio of F16, A16, and A15 (yes it’s back) are gonna be the first batch to come through. Armed with an Intel Core i7-13650HX and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU it is a nice balance for a relatively thin and light model.
Meanwhile, the A16 features the AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with the A15 hogging the latest AMD Ryzen 8000 series CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series Laptop GPU (Actual SKU still unknown for both).
Memory options for all three machines include DDR5 RAM at various frequencies and capacities, up to 32GB, with configurable storage capacities.
What sets this iteration apart is the redesigned chassis for the F16 and A16, boasting a cleaner aesthetic with a mecha theme presented in colorways of Jaeger Gray and Mecha Gray. In terms of I/O, both models offer USB-C PD for convenient charging and reduced cable clutter. Specifically, the F16 is equipped with Thunderbolt 4, the A16 features USB-C 3.0, and the A15 is rounded off with USB-C 4.0.
Turning to the displays, the F16 and A16 feature a superior 16-inch 16:10 aspect ratio, while the A15 maintains a more conventional 16:9 aspect ratio on its 15-inch screen. All models, however, boast a 2.5K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate with G-SYNC support. The audio department is equally impressive, with Dolby Atmos support and Hi-Res Audio certification.
