CITIC Telecom
Acquires Entire CITIC Telecom Tower, Full-speed into Data Centre Market
HONG KONG, Nov 8, 2016 –
(ACN Newswire) – CITIC Telecom International CPC Limited (“CITIC Telecom
CPC”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International Holdings
Limited (“CITIC Telecom” or “The Group”; HKEX: 1883), is
pushing full-speed ahead in expansion into the data centre market. The Group’s
acquisition of the remaining floors of CITIC Telecom Tower is a major driver of
this thrust and the progress already achieved will support CITIC Telecom CPC in
its effort to capture the immense opportunities in the cloud computing service
and data centre market.
Data centre services indispensible to support the
rising cloud computing trend
As a world-class communication hub, Hong Kong has
been offering excellent ICT infrastructure to multinational enterprises based
in Hong Kong and targeting the global market. The sweeping wave of cloud
services in recent years has created more opportunities for enterprises. In
2016, Hong Kong has been named the most prepared APAC location in rolling out
cloud computing. Compared to our APAC peers, Hong Kong ranks highest for
international connectivity and the lowest in data center risk, reflecting that
Hong Kong is the most suitable city for enterprises to develop their business.
In view of Hong Kong’s advantages and the rising
demand of cloud computing services, wider application of big data, rapidly
advancing Internet of Things (IOT) technology and the sharp increase in
enterprise data traffic, enterprises have stronger requirements for highly
secure hybrid and private cloud service as well as safe, reliable, stable and
high-speed connected cloud data centres. This trend has generated huge market
opportunities which CITIC Telecom CPC aims to capture.
Expands coverage of the data centre in CITIC
Telecom Tower to seize greater opportunities
Providing innovative technologies, safe and high
quality services is the key to success for ICT solution providers. As a most
trusted one-stop ICT solution partner, CITIC Telecom CPC has not only launched
a wide range of cloud computing services, but has also actively expanded the
coverage of its cloud data centre and provided full support to enterprises
informationization and digitalization for deploying business applications in
the cloud service platform. CITIC Telecom CPC has realised rapid growth in its
cloud computing services and cloud data centre businesses in the past few
years. The approval of the resolution in relation to the acquisition of the
remaining floors of CITIC Telecom Tower by The Group can strongly spur the
development of the cloud computing business. It also enables The Group to meet
market demand and align with its business development decision.
Mr. Stephen Ho, CEO of CITIC Telecom CPC said:
“The acquisition of the remaining floors of CITIC Telecom Tower will
bolster the development of our cloud data centre business. We have been
striving to strengthen our ICT solutions and our goal is to achieve expansion
in network coverage, information security, diversification in cloud computing
services and expansion of our cloud data centre. The scale of our cloud data
centre in CITIC Telecom Tower will double after the completion of the first
phase of the new data centre construction work. Together with our more than 100
global points-of-presence, 11 cloud service centres, 27 cloud data centres and
the acquisition of the telecommunication business of Linx Telecommunications
earlier this year with network coverage in Central and Eastern Europe, Central
Asia and the ‘One Belt One Road’ countries, we are set to build a stronger leadership
position in the global market.”
“Looking ahead, we will strengthen our
capabilities in the innovative information and communications arena including
big data analytics, IOT, network functions virtualisation (NFV) and software
defined everything (SDX). We will also assist enterprise customers in
broadening their global business presence through utilising our world-class
network facilities, solutions and services.”
High-end data centres bring greater synergies
CITIC Telecom Tower located in Kwai Chung enjoys
geographical advantages. It is also the second Hong Kong Internet eXchange
(HKIX2) which interconnects with multiple Tier-1 carriers. Thus local and
multinational enterprises alike can grow their businesses leveraging CITIC
Telecom’s seamless global telecommunications ecosystem.
The completion of the acquisition of the remaining
floors of CITIC Telecom Tower by CITIC Telecom will add 10 floors to the data
centre coverage and increase the total number of racks to more than 4,000
within the over-340,000 sq.ft. building, thus creating greater opportunities
for further business development. Construction of the expansion work of the
first phase is set to commence immediately after the acquisition is completed
with scheduled completion during 2018. The number of racks of CITIC Telecom CPC
in CITIC Telecom Tower would then be doubled, which will complement the
company’s all-round business development.
CITIC Telecom CPC’s existing global portfolio of
27 Tier III+ cloud data centres covering the Asia Pacific region, the U.K. and
the U.S. provides quality data and server hosting services to customers. The
cloud data centres in Hong Kong are located in CITIC Telecom Tower in Kwai
Chung in the New Territories and Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island respectively. As
both places are self-owned properties by The Group, CITIC Telecom CPC can be
freed from the potential disruption of relocating its cloud data centres due to
lease contract issues. The cloud data centres of CITIC Telecom CPC boast
high-speed and highly secure network connections. Besides, their wide coverage
also enables it to provide backup and disaster recovery services within the
city as well as across different regions and countries, making it a trustworthy
partner for enterprises looking for data security and integrity.
