BlaBlaCar Chooses Nexmo to Help Connect Non-professional Drivers with Passengers Globally
Nexmo SMS API Helps BlaBlaCar Maintain Superior Communication With Customers Across the World
SINGAPORE, March 9 – BlaBlaCar, the world’s largest ridesharing community, with more than 25 million members across 22 countries, is using Nexmo, the global cloud communications platform leader, to help increase its messaging quality through the use of Nexmo’s powerful APIs. As part of its effort to connect humans and make long-distance ridesharing reliable and mainstream, BlaBlaCar is using Nexmo’s SMS API to deliver over 100,000 SMS messages each day to connect and verify users, while decreasing telecommunication costs as much as 15 percent.
“For over a year, Nexmo has helped us ensure our community is getting the most reliable communications and deliver the best service possible,” said Nicolas Schwartz, technical lead at BlaBlaCar. “Communication is one of the pillars of reliable transportation—when you’re arranging for a ride, you want the immediacy of text messages, especially when things change. Driver and passenger satisfaction is crucial for us, and Nexmo provides the solutions we need for the satisfaction of our community.”
BlaBlaCar revolutionised the ridesharing space by allowing non-professional drivers to offer rides in their cars for long-distance travel to help offset costs. In order to verify people’s identities upon signup and allow people to arrange rides, the company needed the ubiquity and immediacy of SMS and voice messaging. After researching a number of tools, BlaBlaCar found that Nexmo’s cloud communication platform was easy to integrate, provided direct-to-carrier connections for enhanced message quality, plus found Nexmo Adaptive RoutingTM identified the shortest yet most reliable route for each SMS or voice message sent, while ensuring extensive international coverage.
“It’s inspiring to see how BlaBlaCar is revolutionising the way people connect and travel, and we’re proud to be a part of the shared economy wave,” said Cyprien Godard, France country lead for Nexmo. “We built our platform for disruptive companies like BlaBlaCar to easily integrate communications capabilities that result in compelling products and user experiences.”
