Qualcomm has introduced the Dragonwing Q-6690, the first enterprise mobile processor with fully integrated RAIN RFID reader capabilities. By embedding ultra-high frequency RFID directly onto the chip, the processor removes the need for external modules, reducing device size, cost, and engineering complexity for OEMs and ODMs.
The integration addresses long-standing challenges around hardware redesign, software modifications, and certification delays that have slowed RFID adoption in handhelds and tablets. With the Q-6690, device makers can deliver compact, power-efficient products while maintaining coexistence with 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and UWB radios.
Additionally, the processor supports the ISO/IEC 18000-63 RAIN standard and is Gen2X-capable, an enhancement introduced by Impinj to accelerate RFID adoption. I
Qualcomm is positioning Dragonwing as a differentiator for OEMs and ODMs targeting edge applications, with potential use cases spanning retail inventory management, point-of-sale systems, shipment tracking, medical monitoring, and product authentication. By integrating RFID at the processor level, the Q-6690 is designed to shorten time to market and broaden RFID deployment in enterprise mobility.
