Kingston has announced its IronKey D500S USB drive has NIST FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation, making it the first and only hardware-encrypted USB drive to pair this certification with a TAA-compliant and trusted supply chain.
The D500S was designed to exceed industry standards by incorporating XTS-AES 256-bit encryption and sourcing all critical components, including its secure microprocessor, digitally signed firmware, and NAND Flash chips, exclusively from TAA-compliant suppliers. Kingston ensures these parts are stored and assembled under tightly controlled conditions in its California facility, with matching serial numbers for better asset tracking and endpoint management.
Feature-wise, it offers a dual-partition setup, letting admins create separate secure spaces with multiple passwords, including a hidden file store that stays invisible on untrusted systems, as well as things like Global Read-Only mode, Crypto-Erase functionality to destroy data in emergencies, and FIPS 140-3 Level 3 anti-tampering protection.
The D500S is encased in a rugged zinc shell tested to military-grade shock, vibration, and drop standards, with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Available in capacities up to 512GB and backed by a five-year warranty, the drive delivers a comprehensive solution for organizations seeking customizable and resilient data-at-rest protection.
