Samsung has officially announced the public beta of One UI 7, showcasing its commitment to delivering a simple yet transformative mobile interface. The update focuses on enhancing usability, bolstering security and privacy, and incorporating advanced AI capabilities to streamline everyday tasks.
Core Features of One UI 7
At the heart of One UI 7 are AI-driven tools aimed at improving productivity and user interaction. The new writing assistance features enable users to refine text directly within the system, providing functionalities like content summarization, spelling and grammar checks, and automatic note formatting. Additionally, the innovative call transcription feature supports 20 languages, automatically transcribing recorded calls to eliminate manual note-taking.
A notable addition is the “Now Bar,” a lock screen widget that combines notifications and quick access to features such as Interpreter, Music, Recording, and Stopwatch. This streamlines device usage by minimizing the need to unlock the screen frequently. The design philosophy behind One UI 7 emphasizes simplicity and emotional connection, reducing visual clutter for a more intuitive experience.
The camera app has also received minor updates, improving its layout for a cleaner look and quicker access to features.
Enhanced Security and Privacy
Security takes precedence with substantial upgrades to Samsung’s Knox Matrix ecosystem. The newly introduced Knox Matrix dashboard provides transparency by allowing users to monitor the security status of connected Samsung devices. Secure devices are marked as “green,” with actionable recommendations for addressing potential risks. Additionally, the Enhanced Data Protection feature introduces a seamless recovery method, enabling secure private data transfers via lock screen authentication.
Users can also leverage advanced privacy tools, including the “Maximum Restrictions” mode, which incorporates features like blocking 2G networks and preventing automatic reconnection to unsafe Wi-Fi networks. To counter USB-based attacks in public spaces, devices can block USB connections when locked. A new Safe Install system warns users against downloading apps from unauthorized sources.
Theft protection has been strengthened with mandatory biometric authentication for critical security changes in unfamiliar locations and a one-hour delay to prevent unauthorized device modifications. Passkey integration offers a secure and convenient way to authenticate, allowing users to log into Samsung services using their fingerprint.
Availability
The Galaxy S25 series will ship with One UI 7 pre-installed, while the beta program will first be available to Galaxy S24 devices in select regions, including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
A wider rollout for eligible devices covered under Samsung’s OS upgrade policy is scheduled for Q1 2025.
