OWC has announced its entry into the Thunderbolt 5 market with the release of the Thunderbolt 5 Hub.
Designed for both Mac and PC users, the hub opens up new workflow possibilities, featuring three Thunderbolt 5 ports and one USB-A port, with bi-directional data speeds reaching up to 80Gb/s—twice the speed of the previous Thunderbolt 4 standard. For display connectivity, it offers a remarkable bandwidth of up to 120Gb/s.
With this performance, users can connect external SSDs with speeds up to 6GB/s, link up to three 8K displays at 60Hz with DSC, and maintain compatibility with both USB-C devices and legacy USB-A accessories. The hub also supports mobile devices with up to 140 watts of power delivery, ensuring notebooks and tablets stay charged for productive use on the go.
It is fully backward compatible with older protocols, including Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB-C, and USB4. Plus, it supports daisy-chaining across multiple devices thanks to Thunderbolt’s native functionality. All of these features are housed in a fanless aluminum enclosure that stays cool and quiet, efficiently managing heat without the need for fans.
