With AI applications become increasingly common in our world today, many notebook computers still lack the capabilities to efficiently or even adequately process AI. Seeing this trend, AMD knows that they need to develop a new notebook processor to cater for these new emerging AI applications.
At COMPUTEX 2024, AMD has just announced the the AMD Ryzen AI Processors for notebook computers. They expect that the Next-Gen AI PCs will provide a paradigm shift in mobile computing, where there will be more immersive collaboration, new gaming and entertainment experiences, personalized assistance and increased enterprise productivity, all powered by AI. To meet those requirements, the Ryzen AI processors has been vastly improved with AI compute capabilities.
The new AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors are dubbed as the “World’s best processors for Copilot+ PCs”. These processors offers the new Zen 5 CPU cores for compute, AMD XDNA 2 NPU for AI processing and AMD RNDA 3.5 for graphics processing.
Two new SKUs are introduced today, with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 taking the top spot, while the Ryzen AI 9 365 right behind it.
The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 comes in a powerful 12cores/24 threads configuration with Radeon 890M (16 Compute Units). On the other hand the Ryzen AI 9 365 is a 10 cores/20threads part which is equipped with the Radeon 880M (13 Compute Units). They are both very capable CPUs with a dedicated NPU for today’s AI applications.
Based on the latest AMD XDNA2 architecture, the NPU featured on the Ryzen AI processors are the world’s most powerful NPU. They have 5x the AI compute capacity as its predecessor and works at 2x efficiency. This lets it to be rated to be able to perform at up to 50TOPS, higher that what’s required by Microsoft for Copilot+ experience.
The new NPU also performs 5 times faster than its predecessor in AI responsiveness in LLM inference workloads. Many other applications can also be accelerated with the new architecture, which include productivity and creative applications.
The new AMD Ryzen AI processors outperforms the fastest AI equipped processors in the market today across the board in responsiveness, productivity, multitasking and graphics.
Not forgetting about gaming, the AMD Ryzen AI 300 series new RDNA 3.5 processors is also capable in powering games at 1080p resolution. It works faster than what’s available from the fastest competing product today.
A slew of new laptops will be released at COMPUTEX 2024. There are new offerings from Acer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo and MSI at COMPUTEX to showcase the real capabilities of Ryzen AI.
