Samsung Singapore has announced the availability of the new high-end NVMe drive which is the 4TB 990 PRO.
The Korean electronic giant’s consumer-tier PCIe 4.0 drive is capable of transferring massive data volumes with up to 7450MBps reads and 6900MBps writes performance alongside superior sustained and random IOPS performance.
Now with an even bigger capacity, one can easily access large single files without any hiccups like 4K footage and video games.
The Total Bytes Written (TBW) rating is up to 2,400TB therefore it’ll stay around for quite some time before you need to replace it.
Samsung also designed the drive to host only single-sided NAND flash chips so that it has a thinner form factor and can be installed into ultrabooks and game consoles like the PS5.
If one worries about thermal throttling, there’s a sub-SKU that comes with a heatsink to help you eliminate that thought.
As usual, the Samsung Magician software can be used to keep the firmware of the drive up to date, monitor the health of the drive, and even power and performance optimizations.
Price and Availability
The Samsung 4TB 990 PRO can be acquired starting next month at the price of $439 and $459 with the heatsink included over at the Samsung Online Store, Lazada, and Shopee, as well as major consumer electronics and IT retailers.
